For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do - Ephesians 2:10 NIV
There's a popular credit card commercial that always ask the question, "what's in your wallet?" at the very end. It insinuates that your intelligence, identity and status can be determined by what you are carrying in your wallet. I am in the banking business and there are times that when I am meeting with clients, I have to ask them to provide documentation to prove their identity in order to be in compliance with the Patriot Act. More often than not, the clients will reach into their wallet or purse and pull out their drivers license for me to review in order to satisfy the requirements for establishing their identity.
Men, what is your identity? If you were asked to provide identity the same way my clients have to, what would it be? Would it be your job, business, or accomplishments? What do you identify with? I know that a big part of a number of men's identity is attached to their status, or for some, their conquests that involved the opposite sex. How many of us would say that their identity is aligned with our faith in Christ Jesus? If someone were to look at us, would they see the Christ Jesus that should be present in each of us?
Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus about the concept of our identity being ordained by God or predestined. We are created to do works by our Lord and Savior. More importantly, we are equipped to do good work. Everything that we need has already been given to us. For some, this may require a transformation or a new identity. This new identity may involve letting go of bad habits and adopting a new of looking at things, a new routine that involves more study of the Bible, or a new way to walk with God. Just know that we were all created to do good works in Christ Jesus and are all on a divine mission that has been preordained by God before the beginning of time. Men, again I would like to ask, what is your identity? What is in your wallet?
